North and South Rim

The Grand Canyon is divided into four different regions, the north, south, east and west.   All four rims offer spectacular but different perspectives of the vast landscape.  Of all the regions, the South Rim is by far the most popular with tourists.  For this reason, this section is home to more lodging and amenities to accommodate its many visitors.  The South Rim is open year round and offers more mild trails and hikes for the less adventurous hiker.

For those who are ready and willing to brave the most intimidating trails the canyon has to offer, it is recommended you visit the North Rim instead.  These trails demand greater physical strength but hikers are rewarded with a more brilliant view of the canyon thanks to its higher elevation in comparison to the South Rim.  The North Rim will undoubtedly seem much more attractive to the experience hiker who prefers the soothing quiet of nature as opposed to the crowds that bombard the South Rim.  Keep in mind though, that the North Rim is closed from mid-October to mid-May.  Whichever region you decide on, remember both sections of the Grand Canyon deliver breathtaking views of the cliff and valleys sculpted throughout the landscape.
